(Lake Forest, CA Jan 18, 2011) On Saturday, MARC COMA, crossed the finishing line in Buenos Aires as a great winner. Having led the bikes category from the fourth stage, the Spaniard was able to control his lead opposite his direct opponent Cyril Despres. The daily duel between the two men, in the long specials that featured in this year's program, was both physically and mentally draining. Although he enjoyed a comfortable lead, Marc was never completely safe and his tension did not leave until he exited the last, 181 km long special. In the "COMA" clan, they celebrate a double victory, since his team mate, Juan PEDRERO's fabulous fifth place is exceptional. Two years ago, Juan discovered the DAKAR, on the seat of a second hand bike that gave up the ghost from the first stage. In 2010, the young Catalan presented himself once more at the start of the rally, on the seat of a new bike and finishes with an excellent 10th place. Having been spotted, Juan is employed for the 2011 edition to ride alongside Marc. In the end, the "rookie" achieves the top 5 and shows himself therefore as being a revelation amongst the Spanish rally riders. We are extremely happy that these two riders lifted SCORPION to the highest step on the podium and we congratulate them for their exceptional talent.
Marc COMA: "It is such relief! This victory is exceptional for me. I win the DAKAR for the third time, but this year, it was necessary to fight ceaselessly. Everyone who worked alongside me is very happy. We let nothing go with Cyril, a little like Nasser and Carlos (Nasser Al Attiyah and Carlos Sainz). We were all-out the whole time! It's good for the sport. I was also very lucky not to injure myself when I had my fall. Often, when you fall so hard, you have to go home. You need a little bit of luck to win. I still feel fit enough to return next year on a bike!"
ScorpionUSA congratulates both Marc and his teammate Juan!
